Moving From Minimal

I made a mental pact with myself – before starting this weblot for the [insert number here] time – that I wouldn’t write from the development side of my life. I won’t write from the development side of my life.. I WON’T WRITE FROM THE DEVELOPMENT SIDE OF MY LIFE!!!

If you’ve been to my web site before, you’ll know I’ve used the same theme since it’s ~~1st~~ ~~2nd~~ ~~3rd~~ 4th launch. I used the Minimal theme from ElegantThemes – and it suited me well. After all, this is just a personal blog – I don’t need to to do anything too fancy (enter canvas)…

I made the leap to WooThemes a few months back (don’t worry team ET, I’m still a subscriber) and have really started to like their framework. I’m still a WooTot (ˈwü -tät n. – a newbie to the WooThemes community). I’m seeing the extensibility of their Canvas theme, and have started using it a lot; to get to know it better, figure out it’s strengths – and limitations.

As such, TravisHill.org is now run by a child theme of Canvas.

Blogging From My Phone

Thought it would be cool to be able to post from my phone, so I’m setting up mobile WordPress. This is the first post from said platform. I’m an AT&T subscriber on a HTC Inspire 4G Android powered smartphone. The idea is to tie Twitter and Facebook into it as well. If I ever accomplish that, i’ll write up a tut.

Third Blogs A Charm

Well, you can’t say I haven’t tried. A few times, at least. Tried what, you ask? Blogging.In particular, at this domain. I’ve managed to set up and knock down two previous WordPress installs on this domain. I couldn’t tell you why, because I don’t really know. Lack of motivation? Lack of determination? Lack of (fill in the blank). Many things attributed to the rise and fall of TravisHill.org, but mainly I think TIME had the most to do with it. This is a personal blog, more or less, and monitization takes a back seat to personal thoughts and current events. And when your personal thoughts and current events revolve around other web properties, well, a personal blog finds little time for upkeep.
I’m attempting to change that. I still don’t have the time, and as a writer, honestly, I take too long. Between the many other loves in my life, I’ll have to make a small slice of time for my digital home. Maybe the release of WordPress 3.0 got my fire started? I only came here to update the core. Then one thing led to another, and here I am posting. It’s a scary thought.
So what you don’t know is that this post wast wrote in two sessions. See, I told you I take too long to write.
